📢 [Notice] Beware of Cult-like Religious Groups Targeting International Students
Recently, there have been reports of cult-like religious groups approaching international students under the pretense of “free Korean language classes,” “language exchange meetings,” or “cultural experience programs.”
They may appear kind and friendly at first,
but over time, they often lead to religious coercion, requests for donations or money, and collection of personal information,
which can seriously harm your academic life and overall well-being.
⚠️ Please be especially cautious in the following situations:
When someone you don’t know offers “free Korean lessons” or “language exchange meetings”
When you are invited for free meals, cultural events, or accommodation
When someone asks for your personal contact or private information
When you are encouraged to join a specific religious meeting or service
These groups may seem friendly at first,
but in the end, their actions can interfere with your studies and cause financial or psychological harm.
Always make sure to distinguish between official university programs and external activities.
If you ever feel suspicious or uncomfortable, report the situation immediately.
💡 Five Safety Tips for All International Students
1️⃣ Don’t be easily tempted by anything advertised as “free.”
2️⃣ Be cautious of people who seem overly friendly.
3️⃣ Always check if the event is officially hosted by the university or a public institution.
4️⃣ Never share personal information such as your name, address, or phone number with strangers.
5️⃣ Politely refuse any invitation to join religious activities.
Your safety and well-being are the university’s top priority.
If you notice anything unusual or feel uneasy, please contact the university right away.
