The Department of Global Korean Studies aims to cultivate future professionals equipped with both academic knowledge and practical skills in Korean language and culture. Through an interdisciplinary approach and global perspective, we strive to develop well-rounded individuals who can understand Korean society deeply and promote Korean Studies on the international stage.

Specifically, our educational goals are:

Educational Objectives

The Department of Global Korean Studies is committed to equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to become global experts in Korean language and culture. To achieve this, the program pursues the following educational objectives:

To develop advanced proficiency in Korean language
Students will be trained to communicate fluently and accurately in Korean across various academic and professional contexts. Emphasis is placed on integrated language skills—speaking, listening, reading, and writing—with a focus on both formal and colloquial usage.
To build a strong foundation in Korean linguistics and cultural studies
Through a comprehensive curriculum, students will gain theoretical and applied knowledge of Korean grammar, phonology, discourse, and sociolinguistics, as well as an in-depth understanding of Korean culture, history, and contemporary society.
To cultivate practical teaching and program management skills
The program prepares students to design, implement, and evaluate Korean language and cultural programs for non-native speakers. This includes hands-on training in curriculum development, educational materials creation, and classroom teaching methods.
To enhance intercultural communication and global competence
Students will be encouraged to develop a high level of cultural sensitivity and the ability to engage effectively in cross-cultural interactions. This objective aims to foster professionals who can act as bridges between Korea and the global community.
To promote critical thinking and interdisciplinary perspectives
